meaning of tarot cards

Source : Yahoo AnswersQuestion : What kind of divination is lawful for Christians?

I’ve heard about using urim and thummim stones for divination in the bible. Casting of lots is also frequent in the bible. Prophets appointed by God are also supposed to be lawful. Any one know what the current laws about divination for Christians are? Are Tarot cards which came from the Renaissance lawful?

Answer by BRoth
“Divination” is defined as: the practice of attempting to foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge by occult or supernatural means.

In the Old Testament Law, (Deu 18:10) it says, “Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft”.

That being said, NO “divination” or “fortune telling” is acceptable, including Tarot cards.

Why is it that in the Old and New Testaments they cast lots? This wasn’t considered to be fortune-telling, as you were not trying to receive any revelation of the unknown. The entire concept of lots was similar to flipping a coin. You already knew the possible outcomes and all that was left was chance. You ask God, Jehovah, at that point to take control. You ask Him to remove the chance, luck, randomization and to become active in helping you to make the proper decision.

I recently had a psychic reading and this card came up. I was told it was rare to get this card, and then I can’t remember what else she said about it.

Source : Yahoo AnswersQuestion : What are the different types of tarot cards and what different readings do they give?

Hi! I’m a beginner at the world of tarot. I was wondering if someone who knew more about them could explain to me a little about the differences in types of decks and which one would be the best to learn? Thank you!

Answer by Anastasia
i dont know much about what your asking but i do know that you can’t buy them yourself and they have to be a gift. and alot of them come with an instruction book and its really not hard to learn, as the book tells you what to do and what every card means

If you google Tarot you’ll find loads of info. One site I’ve played on a bit is
It has info that may interest you.
You can purchase Tarot decks there as well. Also, I’ve been using various Android Tarot apps, if you can access them. My 2 fave apps are Galaxy Tarot by Galaxy Tone Software, & Yes/No Tarot by Both apps & the site have been eerily accurate for me, at least 85% of the time, in the past year.

You do NOT want them as a gift. In fact, you have to be there, able to feel for YOURSELF. If a deck speaks to you, grab it up! You can find numerous books (some are even included with cards) that will help you guide yourself through Tarot and even give you some examples of spreads. And remember, practice is perfect. 6 years later, I’m still learning. 😉

Blessed be!

For starters Tarot Cards usually have the same layout of cards

In the sense that they all have Major Arcanas and Minor Arcanas; of Cups, Wands, Pentacles & Swords.

Sometimes., depending on the Tarot Deck. The Major Arcanas are named differently ( to coincide more appropriately with the overall deck) Because each deck is unique in terms of illustration.

Sometimes the meanings or illustrative meaning of a card is slightly different to one of another deck.

Their Are Differences Between Tarot Cards., & Angel /Oracle Cards. Relatively speaking

Angel/Oracle Cards., are more religiously based/approriate. As they are believed to give messages from angels, and past loved ones.

Whereas Tarot Cards Can give an overall reading depending on the spread you use.

Spreads are the different layouts you can use to read a card.
Their are Many different spreads., used for different purposes.

The most common spread is Celtic Cross. and /or the Astrological spead.,
Followed by the 3 card fold. of past present future. (easiest / common spread)

I suggest Looking for a Deck that speaks to you. personally. I find Its good to use illustrative decks., just because the illustrations on the cards usually translate into the meaning of the card… so your identifying with each card more intimately based on the illustrations.

Once you identify with each card. and know their meanings., you will be able to understand and make more solid connections based on the cards and the spread that its in.

It takes practise. But if you put the time and effort to learn it will get easier with time.

** There is a common belief which [i believe] originated from gyspy culture (based on stories I was told as a child growing up., as some of my ancestors were gypsy.) that your 1st Deck must be a Gift. I think it’s more or less as a probationary learning period.

Although My first Deck was a gift at 16 from my mother., I dreamt of another set. 5 yrs later and found it within a yr to date of my dream. and is now my main Tarot Reading Deck.

If you are superstious. then perhaps ask for a set of tarot cards..

Im a firm believer that the cards will find you* when the time is right. or vice versa. it’s a ‘calling’ so to speak

There are tons of different decks. You can see an extensive list here:

I would personally recommend starting with a Rider-Waite deck (I like the Radiant Rider-Waite deck myself) and working through this exercise book

Once I had worked with this deck for a few years and learned it well, I found it easier to move on to working with other decks that I was drawn to.

I don’t agree that the deck has to be a gift for it to be an effective tool for you. I think that’s just a silly superstition. Who knows you better than you? It makes sense that you would be the best person to select a tarot deck for yourself.

What spreads you use and how you interpret the card readings will be things you develop along the way as you learn them.
