Source : Yahoo AnswersQuestion : What is the best way to learn how to read Tarot cards?

Answer by jared
On the way down after jumping off a bridge.

Answer by Shado Fang
By reading something else.

Aka, the instructions manual.

First, what is your primary learning style? Audio? Visual? Kinetic?

You can find an audio or a written course on amazon, complete with written reviews. Both styles of courses will have a kinetic component. While shopping around you can also take the time to figure out what deck you want to start with and what kind of reader you want to be.

tl;dr – Just dive right into it, you’ll figure out what you do and don’t like along the way.

You can’t unless you’re a retard.

One effective method of learning tarot is to journal. Go card-by-card through your deck in order and spend some time with each card. Study the image on the card and record your impressions. Break down the symbolism (out loud if you have to) and record what you think it means. Then get out your books… the guidebook that comes with the deck and any other book you have with tarot meanings (at least having one other book can be helpful. I recommend either “Tarot: Your Everyday Guide” bu Jenina Renee or “The Tarot Workbook” by Nevill Drury) and read through the entries while examining the picture on the card. Record whatever information seems important or relevant. When you are through with the deck, go back through your notes and study them… compile a short statement about the card, maybe a couple of sentences describing what you think it means… then see if you can break this down further into a keyword or two that describes the card… this will help the meanings you see by studying the cards stick in your head a little.
The next thing you might try is comparing the numbers. Take out all the aces and compare what they mean… the things they have in common will refer to the essential meaning of “ace” and the things that are different about them will refer to the essential meanings of each suit. Go on and do this with the twos, threes etc until you’ve gone through all the minor arcana. I found this to be extremely helpful, myself. Next find a reference for the “Journey of the Fool” and the story about the major arcana and why they are in that particular order and what they symbolize in our greater life’s journey. Journal about the Journey and how you feel about the major arcana… these things were all very helpful to me in my training.
To do a reading, leave the book alone. Don’t even keep your guidebook with your deck as you don’t want to be tempted to reference it during the reading. Read from the images, even if you have no experience with the cards. Look at the people on the cards and figure out what they are doing, how they are feeling and what the various symbols might indicate, then try to apply the behaviors and symbols on the card to the situation at hand. Use your intuition to focus on what seems to be the most important and relevant aspect of the image or symbolism.
If you’ve never read before, you might be better off leaving more complex spreads alone. Leave the complex 10-card “Celtic Cross” spread for when you are more experienced with the cards and stick with simple spreads like a one-card spread or 3 to 4 card spreads where the positions are fairly easy to figure out. Once you’ve got a better handle on the cards themselves and the positions of your spreads, you can experiment with more complex spreads and trying to read the relationships between the cards.

Source : Yahoo AnswersQuestion : Tarot Card: 9 of Cups? What does this mean?

I’m in love with my best friend, but wouldn’t dare profess my love to him…not yet anyway. I did a 5 card spread and asked the tarot simply, “how does he feel about me?”. I received the:

9 of cups
3 of cups
The Lovers
9 of Pentacles
The Hierophant

Is there anyone familiar enough with tarot card meanings and combinations to figure out what these cards are saying? Any chance my friend is interested in me romantically? Any help would be very much appreciated!!
The cards were all upright and I didn’t have a particular position in mind for each card, I assumed all 5 cards would represent the present.

Answer by Arturo R
Um, well its suppose to be a seven card spread but I see what I can put from it. I also need to know the angle of the cards were they upside down were they right side up. These are things I have to know to get a good reading of it. Cause a 9 of cups could mean a wish shall be granted or it could mean a error or obsticle is in your way.

Ok thanks and no not all readings are of the present, each card represtent past, present, obsticals and things that would help. Lets see……..its a little rough cause of two cards missing but lets see…….For right now, since I not sure of the out come, but it seems he really likes you but I can’t say if its like love like or friendship like judging the spot of The Lovers but still he does have strong feelings for you, the thing says by the 3 of cups position relax about it, and the spot of 9 of Pentacles it shows that you should not think about it to much or it might happen, don’t know what but somethig will, but it seems by Hierophant others will help ya out with the dilemas.

Hey, sorry but I just saw what the 5 card layout is, what I mainly use is the horse shoe (a 7 card spread) or the celtic (a 10 card spread) that I learned. Now I saw the 5 card spread layout and this might have a better .

Ok, so the thing is that you been wishing for this alot by the 9 of Cups position, with the possition of the 3 of cups and 9 of Pentacles is that you been with him and really feel relax and happy and you really had lots of thoughts about it in the past. Where The Lovers is thats what might be your future together, with The Hierophant, it seems its going to be quite nice and peaceful with you guys together.

Either way, using the Horse Shoe spread or the 5 spread both of you really like each other and I hope for the best of you two

@Safyre: you have interesting thought of it. I say, for me I got some stuff abit confused. One thing The Lovers card from my books say that its only a choice when the card is reversed (upside down) hers is of right side up on the 3rd spot known as Future meaning that their should be still friendship or love to come around. From also my books, Heirophant is not only of rules but it is also offers mercy and compassion, while in the last possition it shows that it should be a nice walk through. Also in my books the your 9 of pentacles is way off of mine, mine is known as the card of Wisdom but it also shows loliness in love when its in the upright position, with it it as the 4th card it suppose to add details for the 3 of cups which is of coarse the card of good friendship like you said. So you could say that this the 9 of Pentacles is actually showing that she had thoughts about this in a personal matter.

Answer by Safÿre
This is short and sweet, because I’m a third party and it’s hard to get a ‘feel’ for things when you are not personally involved.

9 Cups = Wish card
3 Cups = Good times with good friends
Lovers = Choices
9 Pentacles = Freedom from “monetary” stress
The Hierophant = Rules/Dogma

If I had prepared this spread, I would be inclined to suggest the cards are telling you to enjoy what you have. Lovers seems to indicate that you are in a position where you either choose to leave things as they currently stand or pursue the matter further – either way, it is at your own peril. The Hierophant also seems to convey the message that you are dangerously close to rocking the boat. Don’t push your own agenda seems to be the warning here. The prevalence of 9s also suggests that your current relationship is complete the way it currently stands, and that to seek something more could potentially ruin the friendship that you currently share.

My suggestion would be that the cards are saying “quit pushing”. Possibly the time is not right, and you could end up being hurt by rejection because they are not yet ready to take the relationship to another level. Be at peace. The Universe works to its own time-scale, and your wishing and hoping isn’t going to make things happen any faster.

There is obviously more involved than this, but (like I said) not being there when you drew the cards DOES affect how they should be interpreted. For example, did you draw them left to right or right to left? You say that you didn’t have any particular position in mind, the position of a card is extremely important as to its relationship to other cards and to itself. As someone else pointed out, the Horseshoe spread is interpreted in one way, but if you cards were laid out in a Cross (X), then the reading could have an entirely different slant to it.

But I’ve given you the basics. Hopefully you can work out the true meaning from this.

Answer by George
9 of Cups is satisfaction with things the way they are.
3 of Cups is good fortune, a celebration and creativity.
The Lovers is just what it shows.
9 of Pentacles is material success but it is also a card of solitude, not a good relationship card.
The Hierophant is conformity

Putting it all together I’d say he’s happy with the way things are. You two love to party together, go out for drinks and enjoy social company of a crowd. This could lead to a physical encounter after a night out, it has crossed his mind or it’s happened already. However he prefers his solitude, his independence and financial security, the status quo and the way his life is.

I’d be careful of pushing it further right now, the two 9’s could indicate an possible ending.
