Everyone has their own tarot ritual. Some have elaborate prayers and rituals. Me? I shuffle the cards while thinking about the seeker’s question. That’s it. The sky hasn’t fallen yet. čÖé

Every tarot reader has their own way of preparing for a reading, and even their own belief about how it works. The person who told you that you have to pray probably uses that to help them focus their mind so that they can pick up the messages from the cards more easily. That’s the one thing that all tarot readers agree on, you have to focus your mind to read the cards.

Rider-Waite is a good, solid deck, and many of them are actually packaged with books of how to read the cards. You’ll want to experiment with different card layouts to see what works best for you – I usually use a 15-card layout, but that’s just what works for me. Many will use a 3- or 5 card layout with the cards in a row, others will use a cross formation, etc. You may also find that you don’t really connect with Rider-Waite, but find another deck easier to work with, or you may find that a layout that works with one deck doesn’t work with another.

Which all sounds really complicated but if you practice you’ll get it!

Have you ever asked yourself why you find things like this so fascinating? The reason, I suspect, is because down inside you feel uncertain and nervous about the future and think these things might help you feel more confident.

But this is precisely why I urge you to put your trust in God alone for the future. As I have often said, predictions like these about the future are almost never on target (or else they are too vague to really mean anything). Why build your life around them or get your guidance from them? They are only a substitute for the guidance you really needÔÇöwhich is from God.

My other concern, however, is one that I hope you will take very seriously. These things may seem innocent and amusing at firstÔÇöbut it’s easy to get more and more fascinated with them, and eventually become involved in occult practices that are not from God.

Don’t be misled: Occult practices are not from God, but from spiritual forces opposed to God. Instead, put your faith and trust in Christ. When we know Him, we know we are safely in His hands no matter what the future holds. The Bible is right: “When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists … should not a people inquire of their God?” (Isaiah 8:19). http://peacewithgod.jesus.net/

pick the deck that feels right to you, and maybe get a book, tarot has a lot to do with feeling, and what feels right is normally what you should do

Answer by Matthew Hopkins
Tarot reading has absolutely NOTHING to do with praying, or any other religious rubbish.

It is to do with having an empathy with the person you are reading for, clearing your mind, and interpreting the cards relative to that person.

If you are not able to achieve this attunement, then buying a pack of Tarot cards is just a waste of money.

And praying is a waste of time in any case.

You will hear all kinds of “I heard you have to X” with tarot. All of them are merely suggestions, not decrees. Nothing bad will happen if you don’t do X or Y or whatever with your cards. There is only one hard and fast rule about tarot: KEEP THEM CLEAN AND DRY! If you don’t, they will become sticky, warped, bent and impossible to shuffle. Everything else you hear is just ideas and suggestions and nothing bad will happen if you don’t follow any of the myths and rumors you hear about the cards.

No, you don’t have to pray before you use them. I don’t pray over my cards and I read all the time. The reason people might recommend praying before you use them is because it’s a good idea to get yourself into a calm state of mind before you read so that you can focus. Many people like to meditate or something similar before they read. For others, merely the process of shuffling the cards is enough to get them to calm down and focus. What do you do before a tarot reading? You relax. That’s it. Whatever works for you. Experiment with different techniques and see what feels best.

Also, they don’t have to be gifted to you… this only helps if the person who gives them to you can teach you how to use them. If you are teaching yourself the cards, then it’s perfectly acceptable to buy your own deck.

You don’t have to sleep with them under your pillow. It doesn’t hurt, but the best way to “attune” yourself with your deck is to actually study the cards… handle them, look at them, think about them, learn what they mean.

There are no entities attached to your cards. There is nothing living in your deck. Period. Your deck is a series of slips of paper with pictures on them, nothing more. They are not possessed. They are not inherently magickal. They are not sentient. They know nothing. They will not get angry, they have no emotions of their own. YOU are the reader. YOU are alive, YOU are magickal, YOU are sentient and YOU are the one who does all the reading and intuitive work during a reading, not the cards. The cards are a helpful tool, but it’s your mind and intuition doing all the work.

The first step is to actually master some tarot spreads. There are various basic spreads, such as the three card spread, five-card horse shoe spread, and the celtic cross. Next you have to actually know the general meanings of the card faces, and then relate those general meanings to the life or personal situation of your client. If you can give a thorough reading and when people see that you know what you;re doing, they will be more than willing to pay you for your services.

Source : Yahoo AnswersQuestion : Where can I get a tarot reading that is not computer generated?

Most websites offering free tarot readings are really just randomly generated card pulls and your reading is a simple collection of the standard card meanings. Pathfinder Tarot offers a free reading to all new customers, that is conducted via email, by an educated, expereinced and certified tarot reader. You can send a request to pathfindertarot@comcast.net. Please try this service and post your opinions here. Have you ever had a tarot reading from any service? Did you find it helpful?

I can give you one – very manual and personal. But I need 100 bucks up front.

Answer by anthony h
No, I have never had a reading and never felt I needed that, because Jesus said, “Behold, I have foretold you all things.” I don’t dabble in the things of the occult. some do and that is their choice and preference.

So I’m guessing this is YOUR website. This isn’t a site to advertise your scam, dear.

it doesn’t matter… tarot cards were just a game back in the old days, and to assign spiritual significance is like to assign significance to a ouija board, the game made by parker brothers…

EDIT: in that same light, though, it’s like assigning spiritual significance to a statue or an IDOL čśë

1 Samuel 15:23, “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.”

If it was so for Saul, why would it be any different for us?

What do you mean, a “certified” tarot reader? Certified according to who?

Source : Yahoo AnswersQuestion : Is it possible to do an accurate Tarot reading using only the Major Arcana of a deck?

More of the intricacies of Tarot would be appreciated, but my main question is if one must use the whole deck to do a single reading or if just the Major Arcana is acceptable.

And suggested spreads.

Yeh!.. The cow jumped over the moon as well.

Answer by Nikonf5
It’s as possible to read the future with tarot cards, as it is to read the future with birthday cards. Both equally accurate and inaccurate.

Answer by Dude
I prefer a bedpsread myself, usually cotton over a down interior

Answer by John F
No, Tarot reading doesn’t work, no matter what cards you use.

Answer by The catcher
Yes it is but the major arcana represents changes or definite happenings whereas the minor arcana adds a little meat on the bones.

i.e.

The Fool might represent someone about to go out into the world and try something new with enthusiasm.

The Fool followed by the two of swords might mean that person has a couple of choices with their new venture but to expect rows or opposition to the idea.

Answer by Austin076
Your assumption of an accurate reading is the part that is flawed, much less an accurate reading using only a portion of the deck. To answer the question: No you cannot get an accurate reading using a partial deck. Too many variable for the accurate reading are missing. But, a good tarot reader in need of some cash could take a reading from it anyway.

Now, in my humble opinion, Tarot cards are not giving accurate readings anyway, and anyone who tells you different is only doing it for selfish means (money, prestige, physical favors). I read tarot cards for a long time knowing the whole time they were bogus, but, there were those out there willing to pay me a price to have them ‘read’ to them.

For the record: Palm Reading, Aura Reading, Tarot Card Reading need 2 things to be successful: Imagination and quick thinking by the ‘reader’, and gullibility by the person wanting a reading done. There is no way to tell the future. It all works on vagueness where the person getting the reading fills in the blank, and ‘cold reading’ by the reader. These people are all scam artists, I know because I was one.

Answer by Where is my mind
The difference between a good or bad reading using only Major Arcana is the spread used and the question asked. A very experienced reader can use just major but the full deck brings the full messages..

Answer by Helen
Absolutely yes, The catcher explained it well.

The Tarot is like a dictionary, so if you are only using the Major Arcana then you are using a smaller dictionary with only the main words/concepts. If you use the full deck then you have more words to work with and the answer may be more meaningful. The Major Arcana relate to major life issues, while the Minor Arcana relate to more mundane day-to-day issues.

Answer by doglover
Yes. Some tarot decks are Major Arcana only (22 cards). good for doing 1 card, 3 cards, and 5 cards spreads. Good for questions with more spiritual nature. I will use the whole deck if doing spreads that need more cards like Celtic Cross, horseshoe, etc. And yes, the minor deal with everyday life like love, work, career, conflict, etc.
